Takeoff vibrations of a jetliner: simulating possible cause
نویسنده
چکیده
Using a gas flow simulation tool, the oscillations of the air around the wing are analyzed. It is pointed out that the flow behind and below the wing oscillates with subor low-acoustic frequencies. Such external excitation may enter into resonance with the natural vibration frequencies of the wings and fuselage, which can produce a dangerous effect. The point of the article is that the fuselage vibration on take-off depends mainly on what happens in the surrounding air flow. The topic is closely related to the safety issues.

Flying Elephant or Routine Takeoff? Evidence for Involvement of a Third Jet in the WTC Attacks Evaporates Under Scrutiny
The article "The Flying Elephant: Evidence for Involvement of a Third Jet in the WTC Attacks" was published in the Journal of 9/11 Studies ( http://JournalOf911Studies.com ). [1] The premise of the article is that two videos and a photograph show a jetliner "orbiting in close proximity to the towers for several minutes while the North Tower burned and the South Tower was struck." After assertin...
متن کاملFailure analysis of a dynamometer drive shaft coupled to an engine
A typical dynamometer drive shaft was damaged during its working condition. This failure was repeated in four cases. In the present article, a failure analysis of a dynamometer drive shaft has been performed. To analyze the failure, the material investigation was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Additionally, the micro-structure of the failed coupling shaft was photogra...
متن کاملFlow Field of a Dual-Stream Jet with External Wedge-Shaped Deflector
The research effort is a Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) investigation that looks at the flow-field and performance of a bypass ratio 8 nozzle with an external wedgeshaped noise suppressor, simulating the exhaust of a turbofan engine at takeoff conditions. Peak turbulence was reduced by the wedge on the side opposite the deflector, and it was increased in the initial region of the jet be...
متن کاملEstimating Takeoff Thrust from Surveillance Track Data
Emissions inventory calculations for airports, using standard emissions inventory reporting methods, are inflated due an assumption of use of maximum takeoff thrust. To enhance the operational life of jet engines and reduce fuel burn, airlines frequently use reduced thrust (i.e. Derated or Flex Temperature thrust) for the takeoff procedure. Without access to internal airline “load sheet” paperw...
متن کاملOptimization of Exhaust System Hangers for Reduction of Vehicle Cabin Vibrations
Excitations from the vehicle engine and the road surface cause vibrations in the exhaust system and the exhaust noise and vibrations are transmitted through the vehcile body and structure to the cabin, causing distractions and discomfort for the driver and passengers. In this article the method of average driving degrees of freedom displacement (ADDOFD) has been used to determine and optimize t...
